Location: Shatila Refugee Camp, Beirut, Lebanon
Working Hours: Full-time, Monday to Friday - in person, in Shatila
Contract: Fixed-term, 6 months
Compensation: Monthly stipend of $650 provided
Start date: ASAP
This is a rare opportunity to build something from the ground up. As Marketing Coordinator for Alsama Studio, you will take a small, refugee-run embroidery studio in Shatila and help shape it into a profitable, internationally recognised social enterprise. You will turn products and stories into campaigns, customers, and lasting partnerships, directly contributing to sustainable income for women. This is a hands-on, entrepreneurial role with real ownership and visible impact from day one.
Alsama Studio, founded in 2020, is a social enterprise based in Shatila Refugee Camp that employs around 50 mothers of students from Alsama's education centres to create bespoke, hand-made embroidery. Spanning fashion, homeware, and accessories, each piece is unique and reflects both craftsmanship and resilience. The Studio is run by women aged 20 to 45, many of whom have had limited access to education, with some unable to read or write. Beyond employment, the Studio provides a safe and supportive space in the heart of the camp, where women can connect, share experiences, and access activities such as yoga and awareness sessions. In a context where many face challenging home environments and limited freedom of movement, the Studio offers not only income, but community, dignity, and independence.
As the Marketing Coordinator, you will lead marketing for Alsama Studio, drive content, and build partnerships to grow sales and global reach. You will play a key role in transforming a refugee-run project into a profitable, internationally recognised social enterprise, generating sustainable income for women in Shatila.
Commitment Commitment to the women of Alsama Studio. The women you work with are balancing complex and often challenging circumstances, and the Studio plays a key role in their income, stability, and wellbeing. We expect you to approach your work with the question: how can I strengthen the Studio to create more consistent, sustainable opportunities for the women?
Adaptability You work in a fast-moving, resource-constrained environment and respond to changing needs with flexibility and initiative. You find practical solutions, manage competing priorities, and continue to deliver high-quality outputs despite challenges.
Collaboration Alsama Studio is built on trust, respect, and strong relationships. You will work closely with the women, translators, and the wider Alsama team, often across languages and contexts. We expect you to communicate clearly, work collaboratively, and build positive, respectful relationships with everyone involved in the Studio.
Ambition Alsama Studio is growing into an internationally recognised social enterprise. You will need a goal-oriented mindset, taking ownership of your work to drive sales, partnerships, and brand growth. Your work should contribute to expanding the Studio's reach and increasing sustainable income for the women who rely on it.
Alsama is committed to safeguarding all students and vulnerable adults. To work at Alsama, all staff and volunteers must promote a safe learning environment and uphold Alsama's student safeguarding and protection policy, including completion of safeguarding and protection training and prompt reporting of any concerns or suspicions of abuse. You are expected to listen to students' concerns, respond calmly and nonjudgmentally, and follow our procedures to ensure every concern is handled appropriately.
