Frequently asked questions

You have questions
We have answers

With 2,030 children on our waiting list, will you help?

How will my donation be used?

Our focus is to transform the life trajectories of refugee students in the most efficient way possible. That means we’ll use your donation where we need it most. That could include paying for teachers, educational materials, or cricket equipment. But rest assured, with only a small HQ in the heart of Shatila refugee camp, over 90% of our funds go directly towards our students’ education. So however we use your donation, you know it’s going to the right place.

Do you only work with Syrian refugees?

No, we work with any students who have no other opportunities to attend school and are ambitious and willing to learn. We have students who are Syrian, Palestinian, and Lebanese. It’s not about where they’ve come from, but where we can help them go next. Having said that, the majority of our students come from Syria, given the large displacement of Syrians since 2012 and the almost complete lack of education services available to them in Lebanon.

Are your centres only for girls?

No! Our education centres and cricket hubs are for both boys and girls. We do always make sure our student body is 65% girls and our cricket is at least 50%. Why? Because we’re very conscious of the acute difficulties young girls face growing up in refugee camps in the Middle East – early marriage being one of them. And because we started life as a girls’ empowerment centre, and we haven’t forgotten our roots.

Do you only work in Lebanon?

For now, we run four education centres – all in Beirut - and our cricket hubs stretch to the Bekaa Valley. We’re registered and governed in the UK, US, and Lebanon and are international at heart. Over the next five years, we intend to grow within the MENA region, opening our first centre outside of Lebanon in 2026.

I want to help. How can I do that?

There’s lots of ways you can help! The obvious one is donating. Our entire operation relies on donors and we can only grow if we expand our network of supporters. You can also help by volunteering, interning with us, or joining our team in Lebanon. And if there’s anything else you can think of, we’d love to hear it. Get in touch!

Can I visit your education centres?

Yes you can! In fact, we’d love you to, and so would our students. If you have a long weekend to spend on one of the most extraordinary experiences of your life - fly to Lebanon on a Thursday night, let our students tour you around our education centres on Friday, visit our cricket hub in the Bekaa Valley on Saturday, and fly back on Sunday.

Do you offer press interviews?

We certainly do. Alsama has been featured by the BBC, the Guardian, Telegraph, Women’s Hour, and Sky News amongst others and we’re always interested in sharing our experiences and ideas. If you’d like to feature us, our leadership, or our students we’d love to speak with you.
