Strategy & Development Interns
WHY DO WE OFFER THIS OPPORTUNITY?
We are looking to hire ‘Strategy and Development’ interns who can bring their expertise to strengthen our HQ and enrich our education offering. We want to offer dedicated and competent people an opportunity to use and share their skills and time working in our HQ. On the side of your HQ activities, you will be teaching English and be given the chance to teach a project you are passionate about to our students.
Through the implementation and realization of impactful work, you will join a professional, community-oriented, and motivated team, on the ground, in Shatila Refugee camp, Beirut. With two ex-McKinsey consultants amongst its C-suite and a board involving senior members from leading professional services firms such as Ernst & Young and Skadden, Alsama holds strong links with some of the most reputable companies in the world, making it an exciting organisation for prospective interns to be a part of.
THE ROLE:
You would be working in the headquarters of Alsama, in Shatila refugee camp, having close interactions with the senior management team and help shape the strategy of a rapidly growing NGO.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
You will use your expertise to drive forward Alsama’s existing projects as well as planning and implementing new projects that will deliver impact. Your tasks will depend on your skills and the needs of the organisation at the time. This will likely include:
- Fundraising: Expanding our donor base and submitting grant applications to generate extra funds for Alsama.
- Monitoring and Evaluation: Utilising Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint to organise student data, and produce donor reports, ensuring Alsama’s impact is captured and communicated professionally.
- Creation or updating of policies: Making sure that Alsama’s policies are up to date and fulfil the requirements of third-party organisations.
- Communications: Collaborating with our social media officer to forge an overarching marketing strategy that will raise awareness for Alsama’s work on social media platforms such as LinkedIn and Twitter.
- Financial Assistant: Utilising Microsoft Excel tools to ensure Alsama’s financial records are regularly updated.
- HR: Managing Alsama’s recruitment pipeline to ensure its future workforce is compatible with its exponential growth.
- Marketing and Commercial: Contribute to transforming a small refugee-run project – the Alsama studio – into a profitable, internationally-renowned social enterprise.
- Academic teaching: Providing support in maths, English, computer training, and professional skills classes to our students.
- Extra-curricular: Teaching an incredibly ambitious and hard-working set of children a subject you are passionate about. For project ideas, please refer to page 3 of the document.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- A proven record of academic excellence.
- Experience with Management Information Systems & similar tools, in particular proficiency in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint.
- Ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.
- Proficiency in Arabic is encouraged but not essential.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team and deliver outcomes for specific deadlines.
- Must be flexible, detail-oriented, and a fast learner.
- Desire to go outside your comfort zone and a tolerance for working in a challenging environment

We are looking to recruit volunteers for two recruitment cycles:
- September to January (application deadline in May)
- February to June (application deadline in November)
